Arriving at Home
Bringing home your new puppy that you've been waiting for is a very exciting moment for both you, and your puppy. Your new puppy is much like a newborn child and will require attention, food, water and rest.
Make sure that you have enough time set aside to be with your new puppy. We do NOT recommend leaving them alone for an extended lengths of time until they feel safe and comfortable in their new home. If the puppy is put under too much stress at one time, a full blown case of coccidia could occur. We recommend ensuring the transition from being with mom to their new family goes as smooth as possible. They will come home with a blanket of their own that has the scent of mom for their own sense of security. We recommend keeping long drives and excessive handling to a minimum, as it can cause anxiety. Coccidia is a very serious illness for your puppy, and we strongly urge you to take all precautionary steps to avoid this happening. Coccidia is NOT covered by our health guarantee.
Giving your puppy its own space is also very important. We recommend an exercise pen. Make sure they have plenty of room, but are not close to anything potentially hazardous. In the provided space, they will need to have a comfortable bed and the baby blanket that was sent home with them. They should always have a clean bowl of water and a bowl of the dry diamond puppy food. ABSOLUTELY NO TAP WATER, BOTTLED OR FILTERED WATER ONLY! They should have access to their food and water at all times for at least the first month. Eating and drinking is a very crucial during this time.
Please note we do give them medicine prior to the puppy leaving our facility to help prevent coccidia the best that we can!!
FEEDING SCHEDULE AND INSTRUCTIONS
First and foremost, we cannot stress how important it is to maintain their feeding schedule and the amount that they eat.
Although the mixing instructions seem a bit complex, it is extremely imperative that you follow these instructions. We will provide you with printed instructions at the time you pick up your puppy. The dry dog food is Diamond Puppy, wet dog food is Pedigree for puppies. Tiny toys and teacups may have milk replacement powder included in their puppy care package at which time you will receive instructions.
Altering their feeding schedule and amounts can result in them being hypoglycemic. Hypoglycemia is a very difficult condition for these small puppies to overcome, especially after enduring the recent transition.
WATER- Bottled or filtered water ONLY. Absolutely NO tap water. Your puppy should have a clean, accessible water bowl at all times.
FOOD MIXING DIRECTIONS- As it has been stated before, please follow each direction listed. Your puppies health is very important to us!
MORNING AND NIGHT: 3 tablespoons of Diamond puppy- Small Breed Puppy 3 tablespoons of wet puppy pedigree, and 5 tablespoons of warm water, and combine. Refrigerate wet food after opening. Leave a bowl of dry diamond puppy food out in separate bowl at ALL TIMES. The bowl that stays out at all times needs to have at least 1 cup of food in it all day. We cannot stress the importance of their schedule and the directions enough. If you have any questions whatsoever please do not hesitate to call/text.
The duration of this schedule is dependent on the breed and size of your puppy. A more precise time frame will be given at drop off/pick up.
